This stunning 16" viola has a curvaceous body shape, and a natural blonde finish with a touch of green in the varnish. It is one of a custom range of 5 string violas and violins made especially for Violorama.
The narrow waist allows greater bow angle to accomodate the 5 strings, and also helps create a complex midrange to the tone.
This viola has several unusual features that enhance its function. The smooth body shape allows greater bow angle without bumping the bow hand on the corners, special pegbox and scroll design for light weight and ease of stringing, wide string spacing so the extra string doesn't result in a cramped feel, carefully calculated proportions for balanced and rich tone.
Overall this viola has a rich sound suited for recording, playing amplified in a band, or playing chamber music. It is acoustically quite loud, but has been designed for the most pleasing tone for chamber music, folk music or other small ensembles rather than bright projection above an orchestra.
